"You never talk about it," America points out. "Getting out. You make food."
It feels...settled in a way, unlike some of the other people she's talked with. That might not be entirely fair to Billy, though, seeing as they don't talk that often, but still.
"I do make food." There's a laugh at that. "God, I'm becoming my dad. He used to insist on feeding every friend I had when they came over. It used to be embarrassing."
... Now, well. He'd probably kill to just see his parents again, if he's honest. But-- "I don't know if I think about it much anymore. I want other people to get out. I want to help them. But I've been away from home for a very long time now. Even the island-- Steve and I were there about a year."
Speaking of parents.... America would give anything to see hers again, too.
She puts out a hand to touch Billy's arm, to share in that.
"It sounds kind. Food is really important. I just meant...you seem settled." She frowns. "Shouldn't you go home, though. Aren't there people missing you there? Especially if you've been gone that long?"
The touch has him pausing, before he's giving a smile in reassurance.
"I guess I should." But there are a lot of reasons to-- stay here. He doesn't want to worry her though. Doesn't want to make her scared of his power, if he can help it.
"But it's not happening just yet. I gotta show you how to make more pizzas, right? Even if they're barely pizzas."
She would be afraid, it's true. Especially if she found out who's son he was. It still hasn't dawned on her. She didn't really know the children, their names, in the other universe. But she would also get over that fear quickly.
America rolls her eyes with a smile and a huffy laugh.
"You and Steve keep insulting this pizza. What's wrong with it? What makes it not pizza?" All the more reason he needs to make it and show her.
One they're not in the middle of a flour fight, of course. He huffs out a laugh. "Oh, go ahead! But you shouldn't threaten the chef before he makes your pizza, you know?"
"Oh, sure. I'll make it at its best... even if it's an insult to pizza everywhere." New York pizza is the best pizza. All the other New Yorkers would be judging him right now for the abomination he's doing.
"Pizza is pizza, isn't it? How is it an insult to pizza everywhere? Does it lack tomato sauce? Or cheese?" she finally asks with a roll of her eyes. Abomination - she'll believe it when she eats it.
"No, it has those, but..." Look, just wait and see! "You'll see. And you'll also see I'm right."
... And maybe he'll serve this abomination with a salad or something. He's not sure he's seen America eat anything besides pizza and he's maybe a little worried her body is begging for a vegetable at this point.
"Okay. We should get to making them, then," America tells him, arms crossed. Either way, she's still not going to believe it until it's made. What could be so bad about a pizza?
Billy has every right to at least wonder and be concerned - America's only vegetable intake has been tomato sauce, willingly, at least. There are times there are small veggies with her meals that other people make, but that's about it. She's determined to live on pizza alone!
"What is it with you and pizza anyway?" He ventures after a second. "I mean, don't get me wrong... I love it, but I'm not sure I've ever seen somebody eat as much as you can. It's impressive."
Really impressive. But as soon as he's got the dough made and all the sauce and toppings on, he's sliding it into the oven and... yeah, he's going to gather some extra veggies for that salad.
"I'm just always hungry," America says with a shrug. "And pizza tastes really good." Maybe it's because she's still growing, Billy. Or...the amount of energy it takes to punch holes in things, and the universe. Not that she can punch her way out of Hell.
Look, veggies aren't her favorite, but even that causes her to watch Billy closely, mouth watering, all the same. Some part of her body knows what it's lacking.
"Yeah, well... there's just other stuff that tastes really good too, you know?" And she is growing! She doesn't want to be stunted, does she?
"A salad, to go with the pizza. Maybe I can do garlic toast too, or something..." She probably does burn through a lot of calories after all. Maybe she could use the extra food.
"Garlic toast!" America perks up. It's the first thing anyone has said that's not pizza that seems to get her attention.
She nods her head, more subdued as she admits, "Yeah. All the time," with a frown. She's not kidding about that. Food seems to be something she needs constantly, and she's not sure why.
"Well, yeah." She shrugs. "They might be able to help us get out of here. So I need to make them work." Of course, nothing was making them work properly.
"You're burning energy. I can't imagine that's not taxing on your body... I know it is for me when I push my magic too far." Well, along with throwing up and passing out, but no one really needs to know that, right?
America would just frown at him and ask why he can't just stop before that point, as if it's that easy. For her, she manages to avoid going to that extreme.
"Yeah, I guess it is. I don't want to eat all your food, though." She's hungry, but she can't eat that much. Billy's food is probably safe.

He does, however, throw a little bit of flour in America's direction. "You just wait and see! I'll expect a full-review on it, actually."
no subject
A mock gasp as the flour coats her temporary replacement jacket. "You're going to waste flour?"
She grabs for some and flicks it in Billy's direction.
"You'll get a review. I'll tell everyone to give Billy's restaurant 1 star for waste."

no subject
"But I won't ruin it. I want even ground for when you judge it."
no subject
"Good. I want to try the pizza at its best." It's pizza. It's just plain wrong if you ruin pizza on purpose.
